Dhanteras in Jaipur 2026 — Friday 6 November, the doorway not the bazaar

Published: 24 October 2026 · Acharya Krishna Kant Shrimukh Shandilya Ji Maharaj · 6 min read
Dhanteras in Jaipur is the same Trayodashi Delhi keeps, and it is not Delhi’s evening moved west on a map. The sun leaves Jaipur later. The door is often stone, not a laminated flush door on a twelfth floor. People still walk toward Johari Bazaar because that is where silver is shouted, then they try to do the puja in the shop’s aisle because the lane will not move. The rite is not the aisle. Friday 6 November 2026 is the date. The lamp belongs at the doorway of the house, after you are home, inside Jaipur’s own pradosh.
I am writing this on 24 October 2026, from Sultanpur. I do not sleep in the walled city, and I will not invent a haveli in order to sound local. Families write from the walled city, from Bani Park, from Mansarovar and Vaishali Nagar, asking whether Delhi’s 6:02 is safe to copy, whether the bahi opens on Friday, and whether a broom bought on the way home counts. A separate article on this site is Delhi’s flat. Another is Jaipur’s Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November, which is when a trading house opens the new bahi. This page stops at Friday. The book waits.
Jaipur’s window
Both cities use Indian Standard Time. Jaipur lies west of Delhi, so sunset is later and the puja stretch moves with it. On the working figures I use for Friday 6 November 2026, Jaipur’s Dhanteras puja is about 6:11 p.m. to 8:07 p.m. IST. Delhi’s the same evening is about 6:02 p.m. to 7:57 p.m. The difference looks small in a chat and it is enough to make a house early. On Friday morning open a panchang set to Jaipur. Write the sunset. Do not subtract nothing from a Delhi screenshot and call the sum local.
Ajmer, Jodhpur and Kota are not this window. If the vessel will be placed in a house on Sirsi Road, use Jaipur only if that sky matches the lamp. If the family puja is in the old city and you work in the new city, the lamp follows the door you will actually stand at, not the office.
The doorway
What belongs in the photograph, if you take one at all, is the threshold: a brass or copper vessel that the kitchen will use, marigold, one clay lamp with a short flame. In a haveli or an old house the step can hold the plate. In a newer flat the same plate sits on the floor by the shoe rack. Do not hire a sandstone backdrop. The carved door in a cousin’s picture is their door. Yours is whatever opens into your room.
Sweep that threshold in the morning, or on Thursday night if Friday is a shop day. A new broom is one of the older purchases on this day in Rajasthan, quieter than a gold chain and more honest. The broom is for the house. It is not a charm against loss. I will not say that a broom bought on Trayodashi keeps the year clean of debt.
Light the puja lamp when Jaipur’s pradosh has begun, not when the bazaar lights its signboard. Ganesha, Lakshmi, Kubera named without a target, water, a flower, the vessel set where it will be filled next week. Then the small Yama lamp, after the puja, toward the south, left alone. A tall flame in a carved niche for a reel is how a silk toran catches. One cup is the paddhati.
The bazaar is the errand
Johari Bazaar and the lanes that sell silver will be packed on Friday. That crowding is not the muhurat. Go on Thursday if a vessel must be bought, or at opening on Friday, and be back before the sky changes. A bill timed at 8:30 p.m. is a late bill. Sitting down to puja in the lane because the auto will not come is not a Jaipur custom. It is a missed door.
Silver and gold are what the shops repeat. The houses I trust bring a vessel, a plate, or a few coins already owned. Buy metal if you can do it without debt and without theatre. Do not buy it because a board says the day multiplies money. It does not. Kubera’s name is not a forecast. A shop that had a thin year is not repaired by a trayodashi receipt, and I will not tell the owner that it is.
Friday is not the bahi
In Jaipur the new bahi, the account book of a trading family, is opened at Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November, not on Dhanteras. I have said that on the Diwali page for this city. I repeat the line here because every October someone merges the two. Friday is the vessel and the lamp. Sunday is Lakshmi’s night and, for those who trade, the book. A house that does not trade needs neither a bahi on Friday nor a bahi on Sunday. Their Dhanteras is still the lamp.
Govardhan and Annakut are Tuesday 10 November. Bhai Dooj is Wednesday 11 November. Saturday evening may carry a few small lamps. The oil bath of Naraka Chaturdashi, this year, sits before sunrise on Sunday for many houses. Keep Friday small enough that Sunday is not already exhausted.
A work day in the pink city too
Friday 6 November is not a public holiday because the tithi is auspicious. Shops are open, which is why the lanes are worse. Offices are open. If you employ people, send them home in time for their own door, and do not hold a puja in the showroom as a substitute for theirs. Your lamp is at your house. Theirs is at theirs. One tray in a shop does not cover a staff of twelve.
Eat. This day is not a fast unless your elders kept it as one. Heat in a closed lane and an empty stomach is how the evening ends in a chair outside a clinic. The lamp does not require that.
From Sultanpur
You do not need me at the step. If you want Jaipur’s window read because two houses in the family are arguing Delhi’s clock against yours, write on WhatsApp and name the neighbourhood. No payment on the site. Dakshina is spoken before Friday if a live word is wanted. I am in Sultanpur. Travel is when a date is fixed. A sitting is in India if you come. Most doorways need the lamp and the panchang, not a visitor.
Questions people ask
When is Dhanteras 2026 in Jaipur?
Friday 6 November 2026. The working puja window is about 6:11 p.m. to 8:07 p.m. IST. Confirm a Jaipur panchang that morning.
Why not Delhi’s time?
The sun sets later in Jaipur. Delhi’s stretch ends while yours is still the right hour. A separate article on this site is their flat.
Do we open the bahi on Dhanteras?
No. In the trading houses I am describing, the new bahi is Sunday 8 November, at Lakshmi Puja. Friday is the vessel and the lamp.
Is a gold purchase required?
No. A vessel, a broom, or coins already at home are enough. Metal bought in fear is not the rite, and it is not a promise of profit.
Where is the lamp lit?
At the door of the house where you will sleep, after you are home. Not in the bazaar lane.
